Day 1
Welcome aboard King Tide, meet our crew and join some like minded adventurers for complimentary drinks. We depart Derby on the outgoing tide whilst you are sleeping and cruise to the Buccaneer Archipelago. We must go with the flow of the tide, so departure time is usually 2 hours before high in the afternoon. Our experienced crew will endeavor to match activities to time and tide for your greatest enjoyment. We will visit some of the best Kimberley icons and our own special spots including some of the following depending on guest preferences and best conditions.
Kyulgum falls
Sail up the Kyulgum River and take the short walk to spectacular waterfall and plunge pool for a refreshing dip. Visit Ediline Island, with its bizarre rock formations and ancient perarler's graves. Cruise to Coppermine Creek via Whirlpool Passage.
Yampi Sound to Raft Point
Collect large Blacklip Oysters for a seafood delight after a swim at the famous Crocodile Creek waterfall. Beachcomb on a deserted beach then cruise up Silvergull Creek to Squatters Arms and visit an amazing couple who have lived here for 12 years. Phil and Marion have set up a tropical paradise and we have a swim in their unique pool fed by a warm spring, listen to some amazing yarns and have a BBQ. Here you will have the opportunity to purchase some unique Kimberley jewellery carved from mother of pearl and black coral.
Montgomery Reef
Catch the outgoing tide to the famous Montgomery Reef and watch the water recede and the 600 square km of reef rise out of the water creating thousands of waterfalls. Walk the reef and see the myriad reef life including Dugongs, Turtles, and Sharks. Later in the day enjoy Sundowners on the observation deck while we cruise to Doubtful Bay.
Doubtful Bay
Visit a spectacular rock art gallery with some of the best Wandjina painting on the coast from high above the bay overlooking the sheer cliffs of Steep Island. Cruise up Red Cone creek for a swim at the beautiful Ruby Falls and explore the creek that feeds it. Drop a pot over for a feed of mud crabs. Explore Red Cone Creek for Barramundi and other delectable creek fish then anchor in the mouth of the Sale River.
sale river
Zoom up the 20km of gorges of the Sale River in the tenders. Get above the highest rock bar on the top of the tide where the fresh meets the salt and explore a fantastic rainforest with spring for a rejuvenating dip.
Langii
We anchor off a tiny inlet and quietly approach in our tenders so we don't wake the warriors petrified on this sandy beach. As we close we can see they are stone so we can swim ashore. We feel the power of ancient Aboriginal mythology which forms part of the Prince Regent and Raft Point story.
Deception Bay and Sampson Inlet
We take you up Deception creek and hidden in a gorge is a fantastic freshwater creek in a forest complete with caves full of rockart. This small but incredibly beautiful gorges is off the list of most other boats and will amaze you. Fish the creek over the low for estuary species then beach comb at Kid Island. We cruise to the Slate Islands for a reef fish and then anchor in the protected Sampson Inlet.
Port George IV
Take a tender ride up to the top of Sampson Inlet and have a dip in a pleasant pool. Visit Sheep Island where the first Kimberley Settlement took place and failed. You will see the graves of these tough pioneers on this small island. Cruise up past the many pearl farms of Kuri Bay through Port George IV and take in its magnificent vista. Anchor in Hanover Bay and there at the right time take a freshwater dip up the creek. Have a sunset fish for the many Longtail Tuna. A sunrise here is spectacular with red cliffs bathed in the morning sun. Have a look around the picturesque Hanover Bay with a walk on the beach and then cruise through the maze of channels that leads into the massive St George Basin, home of the Prince Regent River. Cruise past the fantastic Mount Waterloo and Mount Trafalgar. Cruise up the river to Camp Creek and take the walk up to the falls.
Prince Regent River
We will hunt out some mudcrabs or Barrramundi before we cruise up river to the highlight of the trip, the famous King Cascades. Here we nudge the boat up under the waterfall and everyone becomes part of the legend. A hike to the top of the falls reveals a landscape described as Jurassic Park. Quietly we leave this magical spot and turn our ships head for our home port.
Horizontal Waterfalls
Wake up in the most beautiful Bay on the coast. We cruise to the eastern end of the bay and take a ride in the tenders up through the Mini Gaps and cyclone creek with its towering red bluffs then you will experience an exciting ride through the Horizontal Waterfalls. We bid you farewell before you board your seaplane for the low level scenic flight back to Derby.
