broome-mitchell plateau CRUISE/FLY ITINERARY

DAY 1: DEPART BROOME

Board Great Escape at approximately 5pm at Broome Jetty for welcome drinks and canapés (transfers from Broome from 3.30pm). Your captain will then give a cruise and safety briefing before we head off, destined for the fabled Kimberley coast. Dinner will be served while underway and there is the rest of the evening to relax, familiarise yourself with the boat and settle into your cabin. We will be cruising all night.

DAY 2:

Wake up cruising through King Sound and the Buccaneer Archipelago. Tide permitting, we will collect some legendary Kimberley oysters for the evening entree. We will continue on for another hour and head toward Crocodile Creek where there is a freshwater swimming pool to relax in and hear some of the areas history in the mining industry.

Enjoy the scenery as we cruise through the Koolan Island gap down to Talbot Bay where, depending on the tides, we can ride the exhilarating Horizontal Waterfalls in the dinghies.

DAY 3 & 4:

We spend the next two days exploring waterfalls, Aboriginal art, Montgomery Reef and fishing in such places as the Sale River, Ruby Falls, Three Ways and Raft Point.  Great Escape will leave early to cruise through the Kingfisher Islands enroute to Raft Point. Here we will discover a fantastic Aboriginal art gallery overlooking the the most fantastic panorama of Doubtful Bay. Raft Point is along the ceremonial route of the Aboriginal tribe that inhabited the area. We will learn a little of their history and Aboriginal Dreaming.  In the afternoon we will cruise over to Ruby Falls for a freshwater swim and dangle a few lines for dinner as the sun sets.

Raise the anchor early for a one-hour cruise to Montgomery Reef.  This unusual reef structure, on the changing of tides, creates spectacular cascading waterfalls in the middle of the ocean and then disappears again on the rising tide.  It is home to turtles, crocodiles and numerous other fish life.  Here we will use the dinghies to cruise the many waterways.

DAY 5:

Camden Harbour is steeped in history as the first attempted European settlement in the Kimberley around 1864.  It failed dismally and so we spend some time exploring the old settlement and hear the woeful tales!

We will then cruise up the coast to Langii - an Aboriginal Dreaming site.  Here you will see the mystical petrified warriors and maybe swim in the crystal ocean that this area always seems to have. We will then make our way for most of teh night to the Prince Regent River.

DAY 6:

Everyone’s favourite – today we tie the Great Escape up to King’s Cascade waterfall. Here you will hear the harrowing story of Ginger Meadows who was eaten by a crocodile at this site in 1987. We will climb the cascade to swim in the multitude of crystal rock pools and cascades fringed with grass and trees. A truly memorable experience. On the tide we will depart from here back down the river to the mouth of Camp Creek.

DAY 7:

We spend the morning fishing and exploring the tributaries; croc spotting, fruit batting and generally having a good look around. After lunch we head down Camp Creek for a trek to a beautiful waterfall and swimming pool.

In the afternoon we will cruise up through Saint George’s Basin to Careening Bay and the Mermaid tree of 1820. It is a stunning cruise passing Mt Trafalgar and Mt Waterloo. The tide will depict whether we fish along the way or not.

DAY 8:

Today the Great Escape will be alongside Naturalist Island at the mouth of the Hunter River. It is here where your helicopter transfer will begin up to the Mitchell Plateau and back to Broome.  The day will be a little disrupted with transfers so while you are waiting you may like to stretch your legs on Naturalist Island beautiful beach or join in one of the other planned activies (Arrive back in Broome approximately between 4-5pm).

Mitchell plateau-broome FLY/cruise ITINERARY

DAY 1: DEPART BROOME

Fly out of Broome in the morning heading north over the magnificent Kimberley landscape.  What an opportunity to see the coast and area you are about to explore onboard your luxury vessel from a different perspective.  You will fly onto the Mitchell Plateau where a helicopter will transfer you across the plateau, the Hunter River and to your luxury mother vessel for the next seven nights!

Guests are welcomed aboard where the captain will give an introductory safety briefing.  The rest of the morning will be spent familiarising you with the boat and waiting for all transfers to finish.  While waiting for everyone to make it onboard there will be opportunity for the crew to take you back to the island to stretch your legs on the beautiful beach, or maybe another planned activity.  Depending on the time and tide, we will take you for a cruise up the Hunter River.  There may be time for a fish or to set the crab pots, we will have to see how the transfers go and what the tide is doing at the time.  We can either stay here for the evening and have a fire on the beach for sunset drinks or cruise off to Careening Bay where Phillip Parker King careened his vessel the Mermaid in 1820.

Day 2:

Depending if we visited the Mermaid tree or not, we will then cruise down through St George's Basin to the mouth of the Prince Regent River and the infamous Kings Cascade.  It is a stunning cruise passing Mt Trafalgar and Mt Waterloo.  The tide will depict where we will fish along the way or whether we cruise straight up to Kings Cascade.  Time and tide permitting; we can make the climb up the waterfall to swim in a multitude of fern edged, crystal clear fresh water pools and falls.  Your vessel will then leave the Cascades for Camp Creek - an hour back down the river.

Day 3:

We spend the morning fishing and exploring the tributaries; croc spotting, fruit batting and generally having a good look around.  After lunch we head down Camp Creek for a trek to a beautiful waterfall and swimming pool.  Upon returning to the boat, we will head off towards Camden Harbour where the first settlement was established in 1854/65.  We may anchor up here for the evening if it is late.

Day 4:

Camden Harbour is steeped in history as the first attempted European settlement in the Kimberley around 1864. It failed dismally and we spend some time exploring the old settlement and hear the woeful tales!  Tide permitting, we gather a feast of sumptuous Kimberley rock oysters and cruise off through Kuri Bay - the first pearling settlement in the Kimberley.  Once again depending on tide we can try our hand bottom bouncing off the mother boat for reef fish ad then spend the afternoon cruising down the coast to an Aboriginal Dreaming site - Langii.  Here we will see the mystical petrified warriors and spend time relaxing on the silicon beach.  The evening will be spent cruising to Doubtful Bay - about three hours away.

Day 5 & 6:

We spend the next two days exploring waterfalls, Aboriginal art, Montgomery Reef and fishing in such places as the Sale River, Ruby Falls, Three Ways or Raft Point.  One evening will be spent under the magnificent Raft Point.  Raft Point is along the ceremonial route of the Aboriginal tribe that inhabited the area.  We will learn a little of their history and Aboriginal Dreaming.

Here we will use the dinghies to cruise the many waterways the reef has produced.  We will spend the late afternoon cruising down into Talbot Bay where we will anchor for the evening to experience the Horizontal Waterfalls in the morning.

Day 7:

Here you will see where natural geography has made an amazing energy opportunity.  12 metre tides force huge volumes of water through tiny gaps in the landscape.  We use the tender's to ride the white water it produces and marvel at huge whirlpools.  The energy here is awesome!

After this the boat will cruise toward the Buccaneer Archipelago where we can stop over at Crocodile Creek for a swim and a BBQ lunch.  In the afternoon we start the cruise past Cape Leveque - back to Broome.

Day 8:

After cruising all night we arrive at Broome Jetty at approximately 7.30am.  Disembark around 8.30am where we will organise a transfer to your accommodation or the airport.

Please note that this is a typical itinerary and whilst your adventure will be quite similar to the above itinerary, tides will affect the itinerary.  We plan each day according to the tides and often rearrange to work in with Mother Nature!
